Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Take the pledge

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The "Take the Pledge" campaign is a UK based movement calling for a massive electoral reform and the union to be strengthened and promoted. They call for people to sign an online petition, among other activities, to reinforce the idea that being British is a good thing and that the union can work effectively without the need for devolution provided that the method of government in the UK is radically changed.

The movement was started out of the increasing bad feeling of British citizens that the recent governments are pro-devolution and often act against the general wishes of the people. This is hardly surprising considering the outdated way in which the first past the post system is employed in the UK allowing governments with far less than a majority to take power. The campaign is also centred around the idea of destroying voter apathy, low turnouts and the media driven system of politics where by politicians attempt to say what they think people want to hear instead of arriving at policy based on research and thought then attempting to debate their way into public office.
